Chinese Gold Pandas have been available from the Chinese Mint since 1982. The coins in this series feature five weights as of the 1983 release, with the 1/2 oz gold coin one of the four original weights introduced in the debut year.

The hall was built as a place of worship where the emperor would pray for bountiful harvests and the well-being of the nation. It played a crucial role in the emperor’s ceremonial rituals for ensuring agricultural prosperity.
In the obverse design of the 1987 1/2 oz Gold Panda, you will find the image of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. Located inside the Temple of Heaven Complex in south-central Beijing, the building is seen here from the exterior looking up its main staircase toward the primary entry doors.
For the reverse face of 1987 Chinese Gold Panda Coins, the mint offers a depiction of a Giant Panda. This year’s unique design shows a full-length figure of a panda in left-profile relief as it leans down to drink from a small body of water.
